Frequently Asked Questions...

What will my race look like on the Jumbotron screen over the race area?

Glad you asked.  For 2019, CIRC has a new partnership with TIME-TEAM from the Netherlands for a new race display look to CIRC. You will see a difference with smooth boat movement and enhanced race information showing all 32 Lanes on the screen. TIme-Team has been used at the 2018 European Rowing Indoor Championships, the French Indoor Rowing Championships and the 2018 C.R.A.S.H b's in Boston.  The Time-Team system will be used at the World Rowing Indoor Championships in Long Beach, California.

Will my grandfather be able to watch my race online?  He lives in New Brunswick.

Yes, he can watch and tell him all he needs is an internet connection and link to this website.  CIRC will be "live streaming" all of the races as a result of our new partnership with TIME-TEAM.  He can follow along, see your splits and progress against your competitors.  If he steps away from his computer to make a sandwich, and misses your race he can still find your race after its finished and play it over and over.

Is CIRC being held at a new location?

The location is the same Main Bowl that it has been held for the past 6 years.  The venue changed its name from the Hershey Centre to the Paramount Fine Foods Centre in June of 2018 and is now managed by the City of Mississauga.

Who can race at CIRC? Do I need to qualify for this event?  What is a qualifier?

You do not have to have previously raced in an indoor or on the water rowing event.  CIRC is open to novices through to Olympians. When we refer to this race as a "qualifier" we mean that it is sanctioned by Concept 2 and can be used to row to a time standard to win a $400 stipend to travel to Long Beach to compete at the World Indoor Rowing Championships in California.

Can anyone enter the race?

Yes anyone is able to enter who is at least 13 years of age.  You will be asked for an estimate of  your 2000 metre erg score for the purposes of lane assignment. Entries are done through Regatta Central, an online system widely used in the rowing community.

Do I need an RCA# to enter?  What do I do if I am having trouble registering for the Regatta?

No you do not need an RCA # to register. You will need to sign up and login to a Regatta Central account to register. Check out the special instructions for registering if you do not have an RCA# on our Registration Page on this website.   You can contact for assistance by email if you are having problems registering.  The last minute for registering is 11:59 pm on January 27, 2019.

What is the PM5 start sequence look like?

When all rowers are in their correct lane and sitting still at the ready position, the starter will begin the START sequence.  It starts with SIT READY, then ATTENTION, then after a variable pause, ROW.  Please note the variable pause is new this year and matches on-the-water start procedures.  I would suggest you click here to familiarize your athletes with what they will see on their erg during the race. There is a considerable amount of information available to each competitor to tell them where they are in the race and if they are close behind or slightly ahead of other competitors.

How do I win an Erg at CIRC?

You must enter in the GO THE DISTANCE 4 minute race to be entered into the random draw to win the erg. The entry fee is $30.  The erg will be awarded in a random draw from all competitors who race this race.   Odds of winning will be based on the number of competitors in this race. The lane official will use your "race card" as your ballot.  You must have an erg score to complete the ballot.   The official will then deposit your ballot (Race Card) into the official ballot box.

Which charity has been chosen for the proceeds of the Go-the-Distance Race?

The CIRC Organizing Committee has chosen Unity Charity.  Unity Charity uses hip hop to improve people's lives, creating healthier communities. Unity empowers youth with the confidence and skills for success. Young individuals learn to appreciate the power of community and tools to build skills for life.   They will be providing an entertaining half-time show.

Will I be able to see where I am in the race on the Scoreboard screen?

The arena score clock screen is primarily placed for the spectators and you should concentrate on your own erg's PM5. On the bottom you will be told what place you are in the race and how far off the next competitor. With help from the TIME-TEAM, you will be able to login to the Results page and replay your race, stroke by stroke if you want.... or maybe you won't want to re-live it in that much detail....

Will my coach be able to sit beside me and coach me?

Coaches will be able to coach and shout encouragement, but must stand behind the arena wall barrier behind you. Only competitors and lane officials are allowed to be in the race area.
